We maximise the use of resources through re-use, reduction and recycling.
We all know Australia has a waste problem.
Every year more than 60 million tonnes of waste is generated in Australia from commercial, industrial and municipal sources. Less than half of this material is recovered through recycling or re-use. For council waste, the recycling rate has increased by less than 5% since 2006.
The rest, some 22 million tonnes, goes to landfill. Landfills contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, create leachates that contaminate water and soil, and bring hazards such as odour, smoke, noise, bugs and vermin that impact local communities.
Global AFR aims to shift the thinking on waste from disposal to resource. By developing facilities in key regional centres, we can deal with waste locally, recover material for input to manufacturing and use the rest to generate electricity, steam and heat for industry.
Our Vision & Values
Global AFR is committed to maximising the use of resources through re-using, reducing and recycling resources and minimising the impact while maximising the value of what remains. We work to reduce landfill, reduce greenhouse gas from landfill and replace fossil fuel power generation.
We believe in community led initiatives and social licence to operate is a core value; we strive to be strong contributors to the communities in which we operate, offering local employment during construction and operational phases and building the local supply chain.
