Business Overview
- Advanced waste treatment facilities, for end-of-life disposal of waste, to be built by Queensland EnviroWaste Solutions (QEW Solutions) on a new freight and logistics hub operated by InterLink SQ (ILSQ) at Toowoomba, South East Queensland.
- Developed as part of a resource recovery park on the ILSQ site, the facilities will aim to:
- Maximise the value of waste
- Reduce carbon emissions
- Provide base load renewable energy
- Support circular economy initiatives
- Eliminate disposal of treated waste to landfill
- Provide low carbon heat and steam
- Australian governments at all levels are committed to waste treatment strategies and objectives. In Queensland, local councils have a commercial imperative to minimise costs, following the re-introduction of the state's Waste Levy. Local waste treatment that minimises collection and transport is essential to council goals.
- The ILSQ freight and logistics hub presents numerous strategic advantages for a resource recovery park, including connections to road and rail networks, and proximity to supporting waste infrastructure and industries.
- The QEW Solutions strategy incorporates advanced waste picking and sorting technologies that maximise resource recovery. The aim is to create feedstock for existing and emerging recycling and upcycling technologies, and to treat residual materials via energy from waste processing.
