Strategic Advantages
Toowoomba presents many strategic advantages
The QEW Solutions strategy aligns with the Tablelands Regional Council waste strategy and the Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor confirms support of QEW Solutions alternative waste treatment strategies.
Toowoomba presents many strategic advantages as a location for a resource recovery park, including:
- Currently 67% of Toowoomba Regional Council’s waste is sent to landfill. Mixed recyclables are transported to Brisbane for sorting
- There is no commercial organic treatment facility in Toowoomba
- Toowoomba Regional Council has its asset management facility close to the ILSQ hub
- Toowoomba Regional Council’s waste strategy supports development of a dedicated local materials recovery facility. It is seeking to reduce reliance on haulage of mixed recyclables to Brisbane for appropriate treatment
- TRC also has increasing goals for enhanced waste management, commitment to circular economic principles, and reduced non direct, scope 2 and 3, carbon emissions
- Toowoomba itself is a ‘hub’ for an extensive regional community with a regional population estimated to be greater than 170,000 in 2021
- Toowoomba hosts significant regional services including healthcare, aged care and education sectors.
